This is a hard question to answer because they are both very affectionate and friendly. The males tend to be a little more mellow and the females a little more demanding but this is now always true. There are other factors involved such as if you already have a female then you may not want another female because the females are more territorial with each other.

Do they get along with kids and other animals?

Burmese love kids as long as they don't screech and chase them. Of course, most animals will not fare well in this situation. If they are brought up as kittens with other animals, they do very well. It is always harder to bring adult animals of any breed or species into contact with other adults of other breeds or species but Burmese usually do better than most with this.
